L.L. Bean has told its employees that it plans to lay off between 200 and 240 workers in Maine because of slow sales. In a letter to employees dated today, President and CEO Chris McCormick said the company is “overstaffed for the volume of business” the outdoor outfitter is seeing. McCormick said the company had hoped to achieve sufficient workforce reductions by offering voluntary retirement incentives. (MBPN)
